Este año el XXI Festival de la Confraternidad Amazónica abre oficialmente con bombos y platillos militares

As a sovereign act the president of Colombia, Álvaro Uribe Vélez, decided that the traditional military parade on Independence day will take place this year in the city of Leticia, border city with Brazil and Peru. Is one of the most representative acts on this date, all the military forces will march on this day. Its a tradition to also showcase Brazil and Peru’s military forces. Last years military parade was held in San Andres Islands in the Caribbean. This year Brazil’s president Lula Da Silva and Peruvian President Alan García Pérez will be attending the parade.
The parade will begin in the International Avenue at 8:30am and will end in front of the jungle Batallion no.50. located in Alfredo Vásquez Cobo Avenue. The formalities will take place on Parque Santander in front of the Cathedral Nuestra Señora de la Paz. The parade will be nationally and internationally broad casted.

Boi Bumba

“Bumba Meu Boi or Boi Bumbá is a popular regional festival which takes place annually in North and Northeast Brazil in Parintins. Traditionally held over the last three days in June, since 2005 it has been set as three days of the last weekend in June. It tells the story of the death and resurrection of an ox. This event also pits the two famous Samba School “Caprichoso” with the colors blue and black bull and “Garantido” with the red colors and white bull. Each side tries to tell their version of the story with music, dance, animatronic float (parade), and songs. The two sides are so strongly divided that streets can be clearly be seen color divided. The town of Parintins is the only place in the world where Coca-Cola ads are in blue.”

Festival de la Confraternidad Amazónica

Colombia, Peru and Brazil celebrate a regional holiday and Colombia’s independence with a 3 day event filled with cultural dances, folkloric, gastronomic events from the three countries. There usually is a military parade showcasing the different military forces. This year for the first time ever the guests of honor will be Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, Brazilian President Luiz Lula and Peruvian President Alan Garcia. Read more here
